02API Keys

higher rate limits

API keys provide higher rate limits (1000 requests per hour vs 60 requests per 15 minutes for public access).

Creating an API key4 steps
  1. Create an Account: Visit the website and create a user account (or log in if you already have one)
  2. Navigate to API Keys: Once logged in, click on your profile icon (bottom right) and select “Manage API Keys”
  3. Create a New Key: Click “Create New API Key”, give it a descriptive name (e.g., “Production Key”, “Development Key”), and optionally set an expiration date
  4. Copy Your Key: Important: Copy the API key immediately after creation. You won't be able to see it again. The key will be displayed once with a prefix (first 8 characters) shown for reference.
API key management
  • View Keys: See all your API keys with their names, prefixes, creation dates, and last used timestamps
  • Delete Keys: Revoke access by deleting API keys you no longer need
  • Key Prefix: Each key shows a prefix (first 8 characters) to help identify it, but the full key is only shown once at creation

03Using your API key

Include your API key in the X-API-Key header with all API requests:

curl
curl -H "X-API-Key: your-api-key-here" https://sebastiantidwell.com/api/states
Note
API key management endpoints are internal-only and can only be accessed when logged into the website. They cannot be called externally for security reasons.
